Overview

Support for Magnetic Stripe Readers (MSRs) is disabled, by default. Follow the instructions below to enable support for your OPOS-compatible MSR device.

Enabling MSR Support

MSR support is enabled by installing Microsoft Point of Service for .NET v1.14.1 (POS for .NET). The download and installation instructions can be found here. Note: Only the Runtime Components feature is required—you do not need to install the SDK feature.

Once POS for .NET has been installed, start SIMS-TRC and open the Control Panel. To access the SIMS-TRC Control Panel, type CTRL+SHIFT+P from the main SIMS-TRC window.

Change the InputMode setting to Magnetic Stripe Reader (MSR) and update the settings in the Magnetic Stripe Reader (MSR) Settings as needed. See the Configuring SIMS Training Room Companion article for a description of the available Control Panel settings.

Save your changes, and SIMS-TRC will be ready to accept input from your MSR device.
